“Their halfcourt press pushed us away from the basket,” Coach Scott Hartbarger said. “We had a hard time getting anything inside. We had to rely on our outside shooting, and our shots weren’t falling.”
The Rams took control from the start with 12 straight points, including six by Lindsay, to lead 12-1 on V.J. Galloway’s steal and layup with 4:45 on the clock. Roberson led 19-5 at the quarter break.
Nine unanswered points, including four by Moody, helped the Rams open a 32-10 lead on Kelly’s three-pointer with 4:07 to play in the half. They were in front 40-19 at intermission.
Moody had six in an 8-0 spurt as the margin reached 61-31 with 33 seconds to go in the third period, which ended with Roberson leading 61-33.
Completing the SM scoring were Tyson Crawford and Bryan Panther with seven apiece, Deron Fowler and Cody Maney both with six, Dustin Nicholson with four and Martin Davis with two.
The Mustang JVs hung with the undefeated Rams in the first half before losing 77-43. Roberson led at quarter breaks by scores of 14-6, 30-23 and 51-35.
Dayne Bowers had eight points for SM.
“We played well in the first half,” Hartbarger said. “In the second half, we let their press bother us.”
