Rebels finish perfect season
The Cullowhee Valley boys won the Jackson County Middle School Basketball Tournament with a 64-36 victory over Fairview in the finals on Feb. 3 at Smoky Mountain High. The Rebels completed the year 15-0 as they swept the regular season and tournament titles. Coach Ron Watson said it was the first CVS boys’ team to go undefeated. Dillon Dunford scored 22 points in the championship game. Trey Shular and Cort Smith both added nine. Adam Henson led Fairview with 15 points. Cullowhee defeated Smokey Mountain in the semifinals while Fairview advanced with a win over Scotts Creek. Smokey Mountain topped Blue Ridge in the opening round.
