ANNIE'S BAKERY AND CAFE on Main Street will host a "Sweetheart Wine Tasting" Friday, Feb. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. The $12-per-person cost includes a $2 donation to the Jackson County Library Fund. The event will offer a chance help the library while sampling hors d'oeuvres and specialty food items and baked goods.

WHITTIER RESIDENT Roberta Arsuffi sent us a note expressing appreciation to retiring Postmaster Pauline Beck for her dedicated service. According to Arsuffi, Beck was instrumental in getting local phone service between Sylva and Whittier and reconfiguring traffic to improve safety when the post office moved into its present building. "Anyone who needed help at the Whittier Post Office got perfection in unparalleled assistance," Arsuffi wrote. "Pauline, you've been so much more to the people of Whittier than a postmaster. Our heartfelt appreciation for a job well done."
