TUCKASEGEE TRADING CO. will open Friday, Jan. 28, near the Moody Bridge between East LaPorte and Tuckasegee. A joint venture of sisters Nikki Toedtman and Brandi Young, the new store will feature an array of feed and seed, and will also include antiques, gifts, lawn and garden supplies including fertilizer and pesticides, hardware, and electrical and plumbing supplies. In addition, the store will offer clothing and boots from manufacturers including Wrangler, Walls and Georgia boots. Later in the season Nikki and Brandi will add bedding plants and produce. The store will be open seven days a week, with hours 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Both sisters are Smoky Mountain High and N.C. State graduates, and both were volleyball standouts at SMHS.

A BENEFIT FOR MARTHA GALLOWAY will be held Friday, Feb. 4, at the Balsam Grove Community Center in Transylvania County. She is the widow of Andrew Galloway, who grew up in Jackson County's Canada community. The event will include a hot dog supper and will begin at 6 p.m.
THE ANNUAL FREE THROW CONTEST sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and Jackson County Recreation Department will be Sunday, Feb. 6, from 1 until 3 p.m. at the Rec Center in Cullowhee. Competition is open to boys and girls age 10-14 as of Jan. 1. The event will include a 1 p.m. free-throw clinic with Western Carolina University basketball coach Steve Shurina. HOMETOWN CAROLINA REALTY owners Clearine Franks and Lynn Fox announce the addition of Tammy Kimmel to their sales staff. Tammy and husband Jack moved to Sylva in 2003 from Titusville, Fla. Jack worked with the Titusville Fire Department, and Tammy worked in real estate, specializing in management and residential sales. A graduate of Southern Ohio College, Tammy holds a degree in marketing and advertising. The Kimmels have three daughters and a son, plus a new granddaughter. Their two youngest children attend Fairview Elementary School.
BRUCE WILLIAMS received a sales award during Hometown Carolina Realty's recent awards dinner. Williams' 2004 sales totaled more than $3.5 million. Other awards went to Clearine Franks for $2.5 million in sales and to Lynn Fox and Teresa Poor, who each had more than $2 million in sales. Hometown Carolina has offices in both Sylva and Franklin. This marks the fourth time Bryson has been Allison's top salesman since he joined the company in 1996. Bryson covers Jackson and Swain counties in North Carolina as well as the Gatlinburg, Tenn., market.
