DOT sets meeting to discuss widening Cope Creek Road

The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on its plans for improvements to Cope Creek Road (S.R. 1449) Friday, Feb. 4, from 4:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the Community Service Center.

According to DOT Division Construction Engineer Jamie Wilson, the Cope Creek project is part of the NC Moving Ahead Program, which was approved by the Legislature for projects that will improve safety and provide an economic stimulus. Plans call for the widening of the existing Cope Creek Road from its intersection with N.C. 107 to its intersection with East Cope Creek Road, Wilson said. Some curves will be straightened, but the project shouldn't take any houses, he said.

The Feb. 3 session will be an informational meeting to present the proposed project to Cope Creek residents and give them an opportunity to express their opinions, Wilson said.

Additional comments and material may be submitted for a period of 10 days from the date of the hearing.

Maps of the proposed construction are available for inspection at the DOT division office on Webster Road, Wilson said. Those with questions may call him at 586-2141.
