Brass quintet to perform Tuesday

The Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet, the resident faculty brass quintet of Western Carolina University, will perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the Coulter Building recital hall. Members are, from left, David Ginn, trumpet; Alan Mattingly, horn; Bradley Ulrich, trumpet; Daniel Cherry, trombone; and Michael Schallock, tuba. Formed in 1993, the group has a wide-ranging repertoire from early music and classical to ragtime, jazz and contemporary compositions. Next week's free program will include works from classical music composers Renwick, Ewazen and Holst, early music arranged by Allan Dean, and jazz by Gillis and Lew Pollack. It is open to the public free of charge. SMBQ will represent Western at the International Romantic Trumpet Festival in May in St. Petersburg, Russia.
