WE HEARD about more holiday good deeds this week. Sylva Police officers distributed Christmas bags and visited Skyland Care residents on Dec. 17. Among those they spoke with was 101-year-old Ruth Gibson. And Keith Henry of Mountain Youth Resources wrote to tell us that Balsam Mountain Preserve employees bought Christmas gifts for kids in the agency's emergency shelter, including a large television to replace one that was broken.
TWO SUCCESS STORIES – Two weeks ago we printed requests for information, and both were answered the very next week. Brenda Harris of Vancouver, Wash., sought information about family members here in Sylva. She's since been in touch with a cousin, Glenda Hoxit of Sylva. From even farther afield came a note from Shen Tao of Sweden, who was looking for a former Sylva resident, Robert "J.R." Maillard. After we ran the information, J.R. turned up in New Mexico and got in touch with Shen.
