THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE to contribute to a savings account set up for Lisa Settlemyre, wife of Terry Settlemyre, who has been diagnosed with severe cancer may do so at State Employees Credit Union. Ask a teller for assistance if you would like to contribute. She has undergone surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and was recently diagnosed with another tumor. She will be traveling back to Baltimore this month for consultation with regard to surgery and/or treatment.
ELIZABETH DUX of Bessie May & Co. taped several shows for WLOS-TV's "Craft Corner" segment on its noon news show. Air dates for the January segments are Tuesday, Jan. 11, and Thursday, Jan. 27. Host Victoria Dunkle invited members of Dogwood Crafters to appear. "It was so much fun and great exposure for Dogwood Crafters," Dux said.
JACKSON COUNTY FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER sent us a note to say "thank you" to everyone who supported their recent blanket drive. A total of 49 blankets were collected and distributed through the Jackson County Department on Aging, the Community Table and Cherokee United Methodist Church. "This was a very successful event and all donations will be well remembered by those who received blankets," said Anna Thompson of the FRC.

She joins more than 30,000 real estate professionals across North America who have earned the designation by completing a comprehensive course in buyer representation and an elective course focusing on a buyer representation specialty.

Kight has offices in both Sylva and Asheville and concentrates his practice in all areas of bankruptcy law. FOUR SONGWRITERS will combine their talents Friday, Dec. 31, at Balsam Mountain Inn for a special New Year's Eve edition of the Inn's popular "Songwriters in the Round" series. The session will feature singer/songwriters Casey Kelly, Jerry Vandiver, Wood Newton and Todd Cerney. The four will share stories about their famous songs and performing in the Inn's 100-seat restaurant. Collectively, the four have written hits for such performers as Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Tanya Tucker, the Oak Ridge Boys and Alabama. All are talented performers as well. INNISFREE VICTORIAN INN in Glenville is among eight accommodations and three restaurants in Western North Carolina to earn an AAA Four Diamond rating for 2005. Requirements for the designation are rigorous, and those accommodations that win it are among the best hotels in the world, said David Parsons, president of AAA Carolinas.
HOST FAMILIES are need by AYUSA International for high school students from Bosnia for the spring semester of 2005. Students are proficient in English and will have their own expense money. GOODY'S FAMILY CLOTHING has announced the results of its annual chain-wide fund-raiser for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The stores raised $97,985 to aid in the fight against breast cancer through the sale of pink ribbon pins – the symbol of breast cancer awareness – during October, culminating in Lee National Denim Day on Oct. 8. Now in its ninth year, Lee's Denim Day is the largest single-day fund-raiser for breast cancer and has raised more than $50 million for the Komen Foundation. Goody's associates, along with thousands of other companies nationwide, gave donations to Komen for the privilege of wearing jeans to work that day.
