Area churches to offer variety of Christmas programs this week

Several county churches have planned Christmas programs for this weekend. Among the holiday offerings are Christmas plays and musical programs. Details are listed below:

Wayside Baptist

Wayside Baptist Church on Allens Branch will present a Christmas program, "He's Alive," Saturday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m.

The New Image Singers of Alto, Ga., will also perform.

Black Mountain Baptist

Black Mountain Baptist Church will present a Christmas play Saturday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. Treat bags and refreshments will be offered following the service.

Fall Cliff Baptist

The youth of Fall Cliff Baptist Church will present a Christmas play Saturday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m.

Wolf Creek Baptist

Wolf Creek Baptist Church will present a Christmas play, "The Greatest Gift," on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m.

Tuckasegee Baptist

An encore performance of Tuckasegee Baptist Church's Christmas program has been set for Sunday, Dec. 19, at 10:45 a.m.

The church's children will perform "Beneath the Shining Star," a mini-musical and play, followed by the adult choir's cantata and drama, "There is a Bethlehem."

Faith Baptist

Faith Baptist Church in Webster will present its annual Christmas musical Sunday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The evening presentation will include a candlelight service.

Little Savannah Baptist

The youth group of Little Savannah Baptist church will present a Christmas play titled "Three Wise Men and a Baby" Sunday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m.

A candlelight service is planned later that evening at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow.

Shoal Creek Baptist

Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Whittier will hold two Christmas services Sunday, Dec. 19.

The church choir will present a Christmas cantata, "Celebrate the Child Who is the Light" during the 11 a.m. worship service.

A candlelight worship service will be held later that evening at 6:30 p.m.

East Sylva Baptist

East Sylva Baptist Church's choir will present a Christmas musical at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19. Selections will be from "20/20 A Christmas Collection" and "Sounds Like Christmas."

The church's children and youth will perform their annual Christmas program that evening at 6 p.m. Children and preschoolers will present "'Twas the Night Before," a story that uses the structure of a familiar poem to tell the story of Jesus' birth. The youth will present a play titled "Return to Cricket County," a sequel to last year's performance. It tells the story of city youth who go to watch their country cousins act in a Christmas play. Treat bags will be provided to all children who attend the performance.

The church's annual candlelight service will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. Music will be by the church choir, Joyful Sounds women's choir, the church ensemble and various soloists. The service will conclude with a candlelight devotion from the Rev. Charles Stevens. Refreshments will be served following the service.

St. John's Episcopal

Sylva's St. John's Episcopal Church will hold its annual Service of Lessons and Carols at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19.

Tilley Creek Baptist

Tilley Creek Baptist Church will present its annual Christmas play, "Every Knee Shall Bow," at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19.

Sols Creek Baptist

Sols Creek Baptist Church will present its Christmas play "The Spirits of Christmas" on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

A candlelight service will follow the play.

Refreshments will be served afterwards at the Canada Fire Department.

Moses Creek Baptist

Caney Fork's Moses Creek Baptist Church will hold its Christmas play, "Christmas in the Country," Sunday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. The play will be performed by the church's choir and children.

Buff Creek Baptist

Buff Creek Baptist Church will present a Christmas play Sunday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. Titled "Misplaced Christmas," it will be performed by adults and children. Refreshments will be served following the performance.

Zion Hill Baptist

Zion Hill Baptist Church will present its annual Christmas play, "The Man Who Came for Christmas," Sunday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m.

New Hope Baptist

New Hope Baptist Church will present its Christmas program Sunday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. Both children and adults will participate. Refreshments will follow the program.

Promise Land Baptist

Promise Land Baptist Church will hold two Christmas programs on Tuesday, Dec. 21.

A children's play, "Is It Really Christmas," will be presented at 7 p.m. Another play, "Angels Unaware," will be presented by the adults following the children's program.

Refreshments will be served after the programs.

Locust Field Baptist

The children of Locust Field Baptist Church will present a Christmas play, "Live From Bethlehem," Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m.
