Former Herald news editor turns weekly history columns into book

J.D. McRorie J.D. McRorie joined The Sylva Herald in 1956, just a few months after this photograph was taken during a class he took in his final semester at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. McRorie was The Herald's news editor for almost 37 years. While at that post he wrote more than 1,700 weekly columns on local people, places and history. Some 60 of those columns make up a new paperback book, "Knowing Jackson County," published by the Jackson County Historical Association. McRorie will sign copies of the book Saturday, Dec. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. at City Lights in Sylva.
