Smoky Mountain swim teams start year with pair of meets at Brevard
Smoky Mountain's swim team opened its season with a pair of meets at Brevard in November.
Several swimmers have already met regional qualifying times.
The season started Nov. 17 with the men finishing third and the women placing fourth among seven teams. Team scores were unavailable.
Those placing for the Mustang men included with * indicating a regional qualifying time and # indicating a personal best time:

"I was really proud of them," Coach Sandy Wade said. "They showed they're going to have a strong season."
SM returned to Brevard Nov. 20 with the Lady Mustangs second and the men third among four teams.
The West Henderson women won with 147 points to 74 for SM, 70 for Brevard and 14 for Murphy/Hayesville.

"We had a lot of sick swimmers, but they all stepped up and did so well despite that," Wade said. "Most of them had best times at least once."
She noted several swimmers had significant improvements in their best times. They included:
Kikuchi, nine seconds, 200 free; Brewin, two seconds, 50 free; Schallock, Houghton and Savell, one second, 50 free; Schallock, three seconds, 100 free; Hayes, 26 seconds, 100 back; Lookabill and Cooper, five seconds, 100 breast.
