N.C. 107 reopens

110404hwy107
Some seven weeks after numerous slides triggered by Hurricane Ivan's torrential rains closed the north-south highway, N.C. 107 reopened Monday. N.C. Department of Transportation personnel and contractors worked seven days a week to repair the roadway, which is the main link between the Glenville-Cashiers area and northern Jackson County. Steep, winding Cullowhee Mountain Road served as a detour for all 107 traffic except trucks while the highway was closed. Though more than 20 slides affected the road, most of the major damage was between the Thorpe powerhouse and Pine Creek Road.
