- and everywhere else

TIM'S AUTO PARTS is featured this week in our Business Spotlight. The locally owned and operated NAPA parts dealer offers a full line of parts and accessories to satisfy both professional mechanics and do-it-yourselfers. See their ad on page 16C for more information. A member of Sylva's business community since 1989, owners Tim and Marcia Jones now have stores in Sylva, Cashiers, Cherokee and Franklin.

PERRY SCHMITT of Sylva and Fat Buddies in Franklin, Waynesville and Asheville are the winners in this week's "Have Dinner on Us" contest that is part of our Great Smokies Dining Guide. Schmitt won a $25-gift certificate to Fat Buddies Ribs & BBQ, and the restaurant won a free ad in The Sylva Herald. Take a look at this week's dining guide on pages 4 and 5C for information on how you can enter and win.

E&S SEAFOOD MARKET, another Great Smokies Dining Guide advertiser, is celebrating its first anniversary at Dillsboro Court. Customer Appreciation Days will be Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22 and 23. Stop by for 25 percent off all seafood and grocery items and 75 percent savings on giftware. See their ad on page 5C for more information.

ATTENTION BBQ LOVERS: Don't forget that Saturday is the Cullowhee Fire Department's annual barbecue dinner at Cullowhee Valley School from 3 until 8 p.m. Firefighters will be giving away free smoke detector batteries to senior citizens and families with young children during the annual event.

SCOTTS CREEK SCHOOL will hold its Fall Festival Friday, Oct. 22, from 5 until 9 p.m. The event will feature air rides, bingo, cakewalks, raffles, games and an Indian frybread dinner. All proceeds from the PTA-sponsored festival will be used to benefit school programs.

THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT is now online. You can visit their Web site at www.rec.jacksonnc.org for information about sports and fitness class schedules, upcoming programs and events, announcements and more. (The site is still under construction, so all the pages may not be fully accessible.)

REPRESENTATIVES from both Edward Jones locations in Sylva recently attended a regional meeting at Lake Junaluska. Sandra Beaver of the office headed by Graeme McGufficke and Teri Evans of David Preston's office were able to exchange work-related ideas with other branch office administrators during the event. Beaver, who joined Edward Jones in 1994, received a 10-year award.
