Swain breezes past SM in three straight games

Swain rolled past Smoky Mountain 25-11, 25-23, 25-17 in a non-conference volleyball match Oct. 11 at the SM gym.

"We just couldn't put a string of three hits together," said Deb Moore, acting head coach. "We had trouble serving. I know the girls have the desire. We just need to work some kinks out."

The Lady Devils scored eight straight points to take a 12-6 lead in game one and never looked back.

The second game was close all the way. The Lady Mustangs held a 19-18 edge after three points, including an ace, by Amy Haggard, but Swain rallied for the win.

The Lady Devils went up 6-1 in the third game and were on top throughout.

Kristine Webb had seven kills and two and a half blocks.

Not missing a serve were Katie Crisp (nine), Katie Johnson (four), Ale Ensley (two) and Laura Bowers (one).

Swain won the JV match 25-22, 25-12. Kelli Woodard put down five kills while Brittany Gilbert had five assists and Kelly Childress added three digs.

"I don't think we missed a serve," Moore said. "We played a good game. We had good setting, hitting and blocking."
