Mary Cash
Mary Frances Cash, 57, of Cullowhee and New Port Richey, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Hernando Pasco Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at Parris Cemetery in Sylva.
Born in Sylva, she moved to New Port Richey two months ago. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are her mother, Minnie Jackson of Sylva; son, James Jackson of New Port Richey; two sisters, Marilyn Jackson of Sylva and Debbie Burston of Atlanta; one brother, Leroy Jackson of Sylva; and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hernando Pasco Hospice, Inc., 12107 Majestic Boulevard, Hudson, FL 34667.

Woodie Talley
Woodie Shook Talley, 62, of Shook Cemetery Road, Tuckasegee, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at her residence after a period of declining health. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Cedar Baptist Church. The Revs. Jim Ed Powell, Sherrill Ammons and Ernest Ammons officiated. Burial was in Shook Cemetery. Pallbearers were Benny Messer, Alden Middleton, Paul Luker, Virgle Brown, Danny Brown, DeWayne Franks, Scott Henry and Walt Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Brown, Randy Luker, Cody Brown, Paul Wilson, Jess Woodard and Relton Talley. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a member of Cedar Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and she was a former 4-H leader. She was a daughter of the late Vess and Mary Rachel Brown Shook and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Lee Wilson and Ruby Jean Woodard; one brother, John Kenneth Shook; and a grandson. Surviving are two daughters, Sanji Watson and DeRonda Talley, both of Cullowhee; one son, Darryl Talley of the home; one sister, Joyce Eucella Pressley of Tuckasegee; and two grandchildren. Luci Howell
Helen Lucille "Luci" Howell, 90, of the Whittier community, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, in a Buncombe County health care facility. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Harris officiated. Burial was in Whittier Cemetery. A lifelong resident of Swain County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Myrtle Johnson McLean and the wife of George Ernest Howell, who died in 1974. She was a former employee with the Holiday Inn of Cherokee, having worked in the dining room for 21 years. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Whittier and was a graduate of the Whittier School. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Paxton, Hall, Ted and Harry McLean; and one sister, Bertha Conrad. Surviving are one son, George McLean Howell of Arden; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
Frances Kolb
Frances Gertrude Kolb, 88, of Sylva, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Mountain Trace Nursing Center. A memorial Mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. An additional Mass was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 6 in Vicksburg, Miss. A native of Vicksburg, she was a daughter of the late Karl and Therese Kolb. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Kolb. Surviving are one sister, Marguerite Nicholas of Sylva; two brothers, Alfred Kolb of Bay Saint Louis, Miss., and John Kolb of Vicksburg. Effie Stewart
Effie R. Stewart, 96, of Cashiers, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, in a Highlands-Cashiers nursing center. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in Cashiers Baptist Church. The Revs. Tommy Madden and Johnny Norris officiated. Burial was in Norton Community Cemetery. She was a native of Macon County but lived most of her life in Cashiers. She was the wife of the late Lemuel Stewart and was the daughter of the late Baxter and Florence Ridley. She worked for about 50 years at High Hampton Inn. Surviving are one son, Bobby J. Stewart of Conyers, Ga.; one daughter, Annie Rogers of Seneca, S.C.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Moody Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Virginia Lambert
Virginia Mae Ward Lambert, 77, of Boyce, Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, in a Winchester (Va.) medical center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Cherokee Tabernacle. The Rev. Cody Lambert officiated. Burial was in Olivet Cemetery. A native of Jackson County, she was retired from the Bank of Clarke County (Va.). She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Winchester and was a volunteer for the Clarke County Senior Center. She was a daughter of the late George W. and Clara Louise Hipps Ward and was also precede in death by a brother, James Ward. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Russell Daniel Lambert, a daughter, Sharon L. Winsatt; two sons, Russell Kevin Lambert of Boyce and George Gary Lambert of Frederick, Va.; one sister, Elizabeth Keener of Greensboro; one brother, William Ward of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Duane Edward "Buster" Stubblefield, 38, of Glenville died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004 at Transylvania Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at Hamburg Baptist Church. The Rev. Matt Ledbetter officiated. Burial was in Hamburg Baptist Church Cemetery. He was a Transylvania County native and son of Doyle Stubblefield of Rosman and Edna Sheehan Bryson of Glenville. He was a graduate of Rosman High School. Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Tammy Vaughn Stubblefield; grandmother, Grace Stubblefield of Rosman; two brothers, Willard and William Bryson of Glenville; and one sister, Pam Owen of Rosman. Joel Esteppe
Joel Esteppe, 19, of Lenoir City, Tenn., died following a drowning accident on Sept. 9, 2004, in the Canada section of Jackson County. Graveside services were held Sunday, Oct. 3, at Robbins Cemetery in the Pattonsville (Va.) community. The Rev. Jeff Powell officiated. Born Oct., 20, 1984, in Sullivan County, Tenn., he was a student at Western Carolina University and was employed by the school's facilities management department. He was preceded in death by a sister, Erin Michelle Esteppe. Surviving are his parents, Jeffrey Scott Esteppe and Claresa Flannagan Esteppe of Lenoir City; paternal grandparents, Mildred and Waival Esteppe of Blackwater, Va.; maternal grandmother, Madonna Ballinger of Marion, Ind.; and maternal grandfather, Joe Flannagan of Kingsport, Tenn. Mark Edward "Mad Dog" Bryson, 39 of Delta Road, Whitmire, S.C., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004 at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenny Weaver and T. Walt Brashier officiated. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Brian Crocker, Kenneth Blizzard, Samuel Wilson, John McKnight, Wess Brashier and Walt Brashier. Born Feb. 2, 1965, in Sylva, he was a son of the late L. Roy Bryson and Jessie Bryson Bryson Ammons. He ws also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil D. Bryson. He was a Baptist and manager of Delta Farms in Whitmire. Surviving are his wife, Carol Ann Wilson Bryson; one sister, Hilda Onita Sellers of Cowpens, S.C.; and one brother, James Levon Bryson of Fayetteville.
Elijah Lossiah
Elijah Thomas Lossiah, infant son of Jessica Lossiah of Cherokee, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Big Witch Baptist Church. The Revs. James Sneed and Dan Lambert officiated. Burial was in Lossiah Family Cemetery. He was preceded in death by a paternal great-grandfather, Bill Candy Lossiah, and maternal great-grandparents, Mickey Sampson and Jess Martin. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Cheryl Garner of Cherokee; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Eddie and Sonya Lossiah of Cherokee; and paternal great-grandmother, Betty Lossiah of Cherokee. Sandra Stanley
Sandra Cody Stanley, 53, of Deep Gap Road, Sylva, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at her residence after a period of declining health. Private graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Gunter Cemetery in the Tuskeegee community of Stecoah. The Rev. Walter Jenkins officiated. A native of Graham County, she had lived in Jackson County since 1970. She was a 1969 graduate of Stecoah High School and a 1971 graduate of Southwestern Community College. She retired from Coward, Hicks & Siler as a paralegal. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Cody and a sister, Linda Cody. Surviving are her husband of 34 years, George Taylor Stanley; mother, Polly Cable Cody of Stecoah; sister, Janet Cody of Rockledge, Fla.; and brother, Mark Cody of Waynesville. Juane Reynolds
Juane Margaret Reynolds, 78 of Sylva and formerly of Mt. Dora, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Harris Regional Hospital A celebration of her life will be held at her residence. Born March 21, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., she was a daughter of the late Palmer and Margaret C. Olson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dick Reynolds, who passed away in 1977, and two sisters, Donna Holm and Marilyn Stone. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jo Alford and Linda M. Kenneth Henritze Sr.
Kenneth Wayne Henritze Sr., 86, of Whittier, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home. Born July 17, 1918, in Knoxville, Tenn., he was a son of the late Robert Ruley Henritze and Martha Adele Stout Henritze. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Henritze, his sister, Dorris Henritze, and his wife of more than 50 years, Mary Louise Bates Henritze, who died in 1996. Henritze attended Catholic and public schools in Knoxville and worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps before joining the Navy in World War II. He served as an aviation electrician's mate on the seaplane tender U.S.S. Curtiss from 1943-45 and had attended a reunion of the Curtiss Association in Charleston, S.C., just a week before his death. Henritze had been active in Boy Scout leadership in the 1960s, serving as an assistant scoutmaster with both Troop 442 of the First United Methodist Church in Salisbury and Troop 166 of Brookhaven Christian Church in Atlanta. He also served as an assistant scoutmaster at the 50th anniversary Jamboree in Colorado with Troop 53 from Salisbury. He was employed by Southern Railway for 37 years, rising from diesel locomotive electrician to general foreman and master mechanic in Alexandria, Va. He retired in 1979, residing after retirement in Knoxville, Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Whittier. Survived are one son, Kenneth Wayne Henritze Jr. of Bryson City; and two granddaughters.
