'Arts are alive and well'

100704jcvaa
The old Courthouse found a new use Saturday night (Oct. 2) as the Jackson County Arts Council threw a gala to celebrate its members, Arts and Humanities Month, and future restoration of the Courthouse building. The party, photographed by Tim Harrington of Webster, marked the first time the structure has been used for an event other than a Kudzu Players production since the Sheriff's Office moved to the Justice Center last fall. More than 130 arts supporters were in attendance to eat, drink, and admire the view down Main Street while being serenaded by the Western Carolina University faculty brass and woodwind quintets, members of the Highlands Pipes and Drums, and saxophonist John West and the Pavel Wlosok jazz trio. The Kudzu Players decorated their upstairs stage area with posters and costumes; area arts organizations filled downstairs with posters and photos depicting their work. "The arts are alive and well in Jackson County," organizers declared.
