Tickets on sale now for Patch Adams evening
 If you enjoyed Robin Williams’ portrayal of Patch Adams in the movie, think how exciting it will be to see the real Patch Adams.
REACH of Jackson County will bring Adams to the mountains on Friday, Oct. 8, when he will present The Joy of Caring from 6 to 8 p.m. at High Hampton Inn and Country Club in Cashiers.
The cost is $100 and all proceeds will benefit REACH. Tickets went on sale Wednesday (Sept. 1) and seating is limited. Reservations can be made by calling 586-1972.
Adams, founder of Gesundheit Institute, is a medical doctor and social activist, who has devoted 30 years to helping change America’s healthcare system.
Adams puts into practice the idea that “healing should be a loving, human interchange, not a business transaction.”
His Gesundheit Institute is a holistic medical community that has provided free medical care to thousands of patients since 1971.
Located in West Virginia, the institute has been called “a pie in the face of greed” by taking the most expensive thing in America – health care – and giving it away for free.
In the movie Patch Adams, viewers witnessed how the doctor uses humor in his healing.
“The most revolutionary act you can commit in our society today is to be happy, that if you really want to change the world, then you be your own focus for celebration of life and let it be known, whatever it is that gives you that happiness,” said Adams.
REACH, a non-profit agency operating in Jackson County for 26 years, provides services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
