Sylva loans $250,000 to Metrostat

By Carey King

Sylva leaders Aug. 5 approved a $250,000 revolving loan for local Internet and telephone provider Metrostat Technologies.

The funds will enable the company to extend its fiber optic lines on N.C. 107 and Business 23, said Shane Burrell, Metrostat’s president.

“All the businesses are along that route,” he said.

The company has been in business since 1997.

“Metrostat has been a good corporate citizen since they’ve been in Sylva,” said town board member Maurice Moody. “Some of the best investments you can make are investing in businesses that are already here.”

Metrostat has also received $250,000 from Jackson County’s Revolving Loan Fund. County commissioners made that decision June 15.
