DOT to begin three local highway projects
By Carey King
Drivers should be aware of three upcoming projects planned by the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Starting Wednesday, Aug. 25, paving will be done at night on N.C. 107 from its intersection with N.C. 116 (Webster Road) south to Evans Road (near the former Bryson Trucking location), said DOT assistant resident engineer Ronnie Sutton.
Work will be limited to the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and is expected to be finished by Friday, Aug. 27, Sutton said.
In past weeks, the DOT has been working to replace curbs, gutters and sidewalks in the area and increase the turn lane from Fairview Road south onto N.C. 107. Plans also call for lengthening the turn lane at Jack the Dipper, Sutton said.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 23, a two-month project will start on U.S. 441 near Top Cat Grocery. The highway will be reconfigured to prevent left turns south onto U.S. 441, Sutton said.
Those entering the road from N.C. 116 will have to turn right and go up to Cagle Branch to cross over, he said.
Starting Wednesday or Thursday, Aug. 25 or 26, the 8.3 miles on N.C. 281 from its intersection with N.C. 107 to Charleys Creek Road will be leveled and resurfaced. The work will also be done at night and is expected to last a month, Sutton said.
