WCU adds traffic circle

Western Carolina University’s reconstructed main entrance at the intersection of N.C. 107 and Centennial Drive has been reopened to automobile traffic. The new entrance differs from the old one in that there are now two left turn lanes coming into the entrance from N.C. 107 north, a traffic circle has been built in front of Western’s Robinson Administration Building, and there is a new left turn lane for the Robinson Building parking lot. Motorists entering campus from N.C. 107 will find that the right lane of the two incoming lanes forces traffic to turn right onto Centennial Drive south without entering the traffic circle. The left incoming lane forces vehicles to enter the circle; motorists then have the option of exiting the circle onto Centennial Drive south, exiting onto Centennial Drive north or continuing around the circle and exiting campus. Motorists should remember that traffic entering the circle must either stop or yield to traffic already in the circle. The entrance was closed May 14 for construction.
