JACKSON COUNTY native Grady Galloway was the subject of a recent column by Dennis Rogers in the News and Observer of Raleigh. Galloway, a 1937 Sylva High graduate who is retired from the N.C. Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, is afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. While looking through some of his papers, Galloway’s wife, Irene, found his report dated June 7, 1944, regarding his part in the D-Day invasion. Rogers’ column focused on the sacrifices Galloway, and others like him living in a Fayetteville nursing home for veterans, made for our freedom.
