Best-selling author Tom Robbins draws crowd

Best-selling writer Tom Robbins, author of eight novels including Another Roadside Attraction and Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, was in Sylva Saturday (June 26) to promote the paperback release of his latest book, Villa Incognito. Some 350 people gathered on Spring Street to hear Robbins read from the porch above City Lights Bookstore (above) and Robbins (below left), assisted by his wife, Alexa, signed books until midnight, including one for WCU English professor Terry Nienhuis (below right). Robbins, described on book jackets as “one of those rare writers who has achieved rock star status,” attracted listeners from across Western North Carolina to what City Lights owner Joyce Moore described as “Sylva’s biggest literary event.” – Herald photos by Kelly Timco
