SYLVA FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH members remind readers of their 18th annual World Hunger Luncheon this Friday, June 4, in the fellowship hall. Pinto beans and cornbread will be ready to serve at 11 a.m., and the doors will remain open until 1:30 p.m., with carry-outs available. The cost is $5.


HANDWORKS AND TERRI CLARK PHOTOGRAPHY invite everyone to an exhibit opening Friday, June 4, from 6 to 10 p.m. The location is  upstairs from the offices of Drs. Coy Brown and Brandy Hicks in the old Krismart Building at 439 West Main Street.


NEW SAVANNAH BAPTIST CHURCH is having a fund-raising yard and bake sale Saturday, June 12, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Donations are needed and can be dropped off at Performance Motors in Sylva. Pick-up can be arranged by calling Ray and Ruth Knowles at 586-6729.


GET YOUR TICKETS NOW for the 30th annual North Carolina State Bluegrass Festival, to be held Thursday, June 17, through Saturday, June 19, at Happy Holiday Campground, located 4 miles east of Cherokee on U.S. 19. The three-day event will feature an all-star cast of pickers including Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Connie Smith, Jesse McReynolds, and Charlie Waller and the Country Gentlemen. The show will go on rain or shine. Bring lawn chairs. Daily ticket prices are $30 for adults; three-day adult tickets are $70 in advance and $80 at the gate. Children’s tickets (age 6-13) are $15 per day or $30 for three days. Kids under 6 are free when accompanied by their parents. Ticket information is available by calling Happy Holiday Campground at 497-7250 or promoters Adams and Anderson at (706) 864-7203.
Grammy winner Ricky Skaggs will be among the featured performers during the 30th annual North Carolina State Bluegrass Festival June 17-19 in Cherokee.
