Old ‘Ford place’ goes up in flames

Sylva Volunteer fire fighters used the former Ford dealership building as a controlled burn during exercises Tuesday evening (June 2). With assistance from other county fire departments, the burn began around 6:20 p.m. and debris was still smoldering at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. Located at the intersection of U.S. 23 Business and N.C. 107, the building was constructed in the 1940s for Reece-Hampton Motor Co. and was home to Cagle and Son Ford for around a quarter century. An Eckerd drug store will be built at the site. – Herald photo by Rose Hooper
