Citadel beats Cats twice in conference tourney finals
Western Carolina’s surprising run through the Southern Conference Baseball Tournament ended Sunday with an 8-1 loss to Citadel in the finals at Riley Park in Charleston, S.C.
The Catamounts (28-31) were trying to become the first number eight seed to win the tournament. The defending league champs struggled throughout the regular season and barely qualified for the tournament. They turned things around with an upset of top-seeded College of Charleston in the first round and were one win away from a spot in the NCAA Regionals after a victory over Citadel. However, the Bulldogs bounced back with two straight wins in the double elimination tournament to claim the title.
