‘Purple Haze’

Christy Taylor of Whittier took second place in The Sylva Herald’s annual Mountain Spring photo contest with this shot of crocuses in the snow that she titled “Purple Haze.” Judged by Herald Advertising Manager Margo Gray and coordinated by Herald graphic designer Nick Breedlove, this year’s competition generated a record-setting 106 entries. Additional contest winners are Tracey Grant of Cullowhee, grand prize; Phyllis Jarvinen of Webster, first; Amanda McFalls of Tuckasegee, third; and Jean Kirkland of Sylva, honorable mention. In the “Cute Kids” category, winners are Brandy McCardle of Sylva, first; Linda Vinson of Honea Path, S.C., second; and Kayla Sloan of Sylva, third. See other winners here.
