NICK & NATE’S on Main Street wants to thank the loyal customers who have helped make their first year in business a success. The restaurant has new summer hours and will be open from 11:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; from 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and from noon until 9 p.m. on Sundays. Nick & Nate’s is closed on Tuesdays.

THE FIRST FRIDAY IN JUNE (June 4) is the date of the World Hunger Luncheon at First Baptist Church on Main Street. Serving hours will be from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., and the cost will be $5 for a poor man’s dinner of pinto beans, potatoes, corn bread, coleslaw, dessert and beverage.
SMOKY MOUNTAIN HIGH MUSIC programs have events coming up in the next two weeks.
The school’s three choral music ensembles will combine for a concert Thursday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in Western Carolina University’s Coulter Building recital hall. The school’s band program will host drop-in meeting Monday, May 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the high school band room. Parents of current and potential band members are asked to stop by and meet the directors. Beginning band students and their parents are invited to discuss various instruments with the band leaders to determine which instrument is the best fit for a particular student. Those who cannot attend the May 24 meeting may call 586-4796 to speak with directors Eric Mrozkowski and Bob Reid.
CAROLINA CROSS CONNECTION, an outreach ministry that seeks to assist with home repairs, will work in Western North Carolina this summer. Church youth groups from across North Carolina and the Southeast will gather at six different camps and perform free labor for those who need such help. Those with projects to suggest to the group or who have construction materials they are willing to donate are asked to call (704) 735-4257 or send an e-mail to CCC@CarolinaCrossConnection.org.
MOUNTAIN DISCOVERY Charter School is seeking additional members for the its board of directors. The eight-member board is currently accepting resumes and letters of interest from individuals interested in serving on the school’s governing body. The K-8 school opened on August 14, 2002, and is currently located on Hughes Branch Road next to Ingle’s in Bryson City. It will be relocating to a permanent, 11-acre campus on Jenkins Branch Road in Bryson City in August 2004. WITH THE COMING OF SUMMER, it’s time to make sure that the annual bazaar and auctions of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers is on your calendar. The dates for this year’s events are July 7 and 8. The Live and Silent Auctions will be held on Friday night, July 7, at the church. The bazaar on Saturday will be held at the Cashiers Community Center. This location offers more parking and space for all the bazaar departments. A raffle drawing will also be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. You do not have to be present to win. Those with items to donate may leave them at the church. Pick-up is available for large items and furniture by calling the church office at 743-2359. All proceeds are used to assist individuals and other organizations within our local community. |
