SMHS students to stage Hello, Dolly!
 |
Smoky Mountain High School's spring musical, Hello, Dolly!, will hit the stage at Western Carolina University's Hoey Auditorium this weekend, with performances scheduled at 7:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8. Featured performers include, from left, Nicholas Savell (Cornelius Hackl), Jenna DeGrove (Irene Molloy), J.D. Large (Barnaby Tucker), Bari-Anne Ryczek (Minnie Fay), Martha Neslen (Dolly) and Ollin Dunford (Horace Vandergelder). Under the direction of Tinnie Salzano with musical direction by Linda Haggard, Dolly is based on Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker. The show tells the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a matchmaker hired to arrange a marriage for the widowed half-millionaire Vandergelder. Dolly, herself a recent widow, reaches the conclusion that Vandergelder and his fortune would be the perfect match for her and begins to undermine his affection for shopkeeper Irene Molloy. Tickets, $5 for students and senior citizens and $7 for all others, are on sale now at the high school. For information, call Salzano or Haggard at 586-2177. - Herald photo by Carey King |
