KARRTUNZ is now open in Jackson Plaza. Operated by Raymond and Arthur Karr, Karrtunz is a dance and concert venue with an arcade of 75-cent pool tables, 50-cent air hockey and foosball, and a variety of video games, including the ever-popular "Pump It Up." Karrtunz also provides a venue for local regional and touring bands to showcase their talent. The arcade does not serve alcohol and has a no-smoking policy. CULLOWHEE VALLEY'S Athletic Booster Club will sell barbecue dinners before each performance during the Carolina Crossmen's weekend singing at the school. They will begin serving at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1, and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 2. All proceeds will go to benefit the CVS athletic program.


COL. RON RACCIOPPI of Cullowhee has graduated from Mendenhall School of Auctioneering and passed the N.C. Auctioneer Licensing Board state exam. Col. Raccioppi will auction items during REACH of Jackson County's Casablanca Night Thursday, May 20, at High Hampton Inn in Cashiers. He conducts Saturday-night auctions at Dodie's Auction House on Main Street at 6:30 p.m. and at Dodie's second location in East Sylva Shopping Center on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Raccioppi can be reached at 293-2202.


SPEEDWELL BAPTIST CHURCH sent us a note expressing their appreciation to all the churches who helped with the recent benefit for Jeff Muse and thanking all those who attended and made the event a success.


THE USS ISLE ROYALE AD 29, a destroyer tender that served the Pacific Fleet in the 1950s and 1960s is having its first reunion Aug. 5-8 at the President's Casino in Biloxi, Miss. First Citizens Bank's Jackson Area has been honored with the company's President's Award in recognition of associates' "exceptional performance and commitment to providing the highest level of service to customers" during the past year.
