Wesley Allison
Wesley Allison, 67, of Sylva's Savannah community, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday April 13, at Old Savannah Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. David Sourderes and Wesley Hooper officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Ed Robinson, Ronnie Sutton, Danny Hall, Curtis Lambert, Rick Dillard and Robert Brooks.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Thomas B. and Maggie McGinnis Allison. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation.
He was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary Sue Lambert Allison; two daughters, Connie Allison and Tracy Allison, both of Sylva; two sisters, Delores Hall and Bragaleen Brooks, both of Sylva; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Margaret Harris
Margaret Ann Ammons Harris, 70, of Princess Tree Road, Sylva, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at her residence after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Whittier Church of God. The Rev. Ned Pressley officiated. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a member of Sylva Church of Christ, a gardener, seamstress and cook and was a Christian. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie P. and Viola Snyder Ammons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie W. Harris, who died in 1996; and one son, Timothy Neal Harris.
Surviving are three daughters, Gail Harris Shuler of Buford, Ga., Sharon Harris Hilker of Ithaca, N.Y., and Cinda Harris Grissett of Shallotte; three sons, Dennis Ray Harris of Scotland, Texas, Harold Eugene Harris of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Charles Michael Harris of Sylva; one brother, William "Bud" Ammons of Waynesville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

William Ayers
William Robert Ayers, 75, of Bryson City's Maple Springs community, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at Maple Springs Baptist Church. The Revs. Roy Lindsay and Tom Harris officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Swain County, where he was a resident his entire life. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army as a member of the artillery. He was a retiree of the Singer Furniture Company, where he was a dry kiln operator. Son of the late John and Minda Ayers, he was a gardener and a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Lou Mae Breedlove Ayers; one daughter, Becky Lambert of Cherokee; two sons, Paul Ayers of Bryson City and Gary Ayers of Balsam; two sisters, Louise Hurley and Joann Bradley, both of Bryson City; two brothers, Boyd Ayers of Ela and David Ayers of Homer, Ga.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Pat Fisher
Pat M. Fisher, 62, of Rollins Drive, Catawba, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Bryson City. The Rev. Jamie Fisher officiated. Burial was in Swain Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Bill Fisher, Jerry Self, Tim Self, Jack Self, Daniel Fisher and Trent Franks. Honorary pallbearers were Andy Gainey and Joe LaPlaca.
Born Feb. 24, 1942, in Fairfax, Va., she was a daughter of the late John Howard and Cora Elizabeth Russell Moore. She attended Mountain View Baptist Church in Maiden and had previously worked for Pemkay Furniture.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Rosa Self and one brother, J.D. Moore.
Surviving are her husband, Calvin Fisher of the home; two daughters, Tina Gainey of Terrell and Sheila Johnson of Denver; two sons, William Fisher of Sherrills Ford and Ray Fisher of Newton; three sisters, Pauline Burkholder of Star Tannery, Va., Margaret Robertson of Palatka, Fla., and Betty Canfield of Culpepper, Va.; and nine grandchildren.

Daryl Irwin
Daryl Lynn Irwin of Whittier died suddenly Sunday, April 4, 2004.
Burial will be in Missouri Valley, Iowa, beside her late parents, Daryl and Beryl Ray Irwin.
She was employed at Harrah's Cherokee Casino.

Rudy Hardy
Rudolf "Rudy" Warren Hardy, 79, of Miramar Street, Concord, died Tuesday, April 6, at NorthEast Medical Center.
Memorial services were held at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 8. The Revs. Ken Craig and Donald Anthony officiated.
Born Jan. 9, 1925 in Everetts, he was the son of the late Harry and Maggie Hardy. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill pharmacy school, he worked in Sylva, where he was pharmacist and part owner of a drug store.
Later he entered Duke University's hospital pharmacy program and upon graduation worked at Gaston Memorial Hospital and then Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in 1952. There he was instrumental in beginning a Sunday school program for student nurses and patients. He spoke at many area churches and was an elder emeritus of First Presbyterian Church in Concord.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him with its Distinguished Service Award in 1959. The Business and Professional Women's Club named him Boss of the Year in 1971. A former member of Oasis Shrine Temple in Charlotte, he played trombone in their band.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret "Argie" Hardy; one son, Randy Hardy; two daughters, Mitzi H. Pope of China Grove and Debbi O'Brien of Concord; one sister, Norma H. Collins of Raleigh; and one granddaughter.

Ralph Golden
Ralph Golden, 86, of Cullowhee's Tilley Creek community formerly of Tuckasegee, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Cedar Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Eddie Stillwell and Jim Ed Powell officiated. Burial was in Shook Cemetery. Nephews and grandsons served as pallbearers.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Delos and Ercie Brown Golden. He was a gardener and a retired farmer and logger, having worked for W.C. Hennessee Co.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Aiken and Hettie Mae Golden; one brother, Fred Golden; and two grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Willa Mae Shook Golden; two daughters, Louise Powell of Hendersonville and Rosie Hooper of Glenville; two sons, Phillip Golden of Cullowhee and Edward Golden of Sylva; one sister, Hulda Ashe of Sylva; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Alice Owle
Alice Katherine Owle, 80, of Cherokee, died Monday, April 12, 2004, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at the Lossiah Family Cemetery. The Rev. James "Bo" Parris officiated.
A native and lifelong resident of Cherokee, she was a member of Yellowhill Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Ammons and Elizabeth Sequoyah Owle.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Lucille Mullinnix
Lucille Imogene Mullinnix, 58, of 2608 Whitehall Ave., Anderson, S.C., died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10, at New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson. The Rev. Gail Long officiated.
Born in Columbus, Ind., on Feb. 12, 1946, she was a daughter of Ila May James Mullinnix of the home and the late William Eugene Mullinnix. She was a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and was a retired dental assistant. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Mullinnix Jr.; and one sister, Mae Mullinnix.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are one son, Richard Warren White of Anderson; and one sister, Connie Haire of Sylva.
