Banks pitches, bats Sugar Jets over SM
Amber Banks pitched a one-hitter and belted a grand slam last Thursday as perennial softball power Enka blanked Smoky Mountain 8-0 in a Mountain Athletic Conference game at Enka.
Bonnie Claxton led off the game with a single, but that was the lone hit for the Lady Mustangs (3-8, 1-6).

If not for a six-run third, SM hung right with the undefeated Sugar Jets.
"The effort was much better," Coach Mark Taylor said. "They seemed to be more into the ballgame. They're definitely capable. We're looking forward to the second half of the season."
Lauren West doubled and scored on Amber Taylor's sacrifice fly in the first.
Cayce Moore started the Enka third with a single. An error and a fielder's choice loaded the bases, and Banks sent the ball out of the park. An error and Taylor's double put two runners on, and Brandi Arrowood drove them in with a single for a 7-0 lead.
Banks singled in the game's final run in the sixth giving her five RBIs.
Katie Blankenship and Banks both had two hits.
Banks struck out 12 and walked no one. Other than Claxton's hit, SM had just one base runner, and that was on an error.
Enka ripped the Lady Mustang JVs 20-0 at Webster dropping SM to 3-7.
