Crash - Herald photo by Lynn Hotaling

No one was injured March 27 in a 6:50 p.m. accident involving four vehicles on Sylva's Main Street. A report filed by Officer Rick Bryson of the Sylva Police Department indicated Doreen Gail Morici, 20, of Trout Creek Road, Tuckasegee, was driving this 1994 Toyota in the right lane when she attempted to change lanes for an open parking space. The Toyota struck a 1995 Acura that was in the left lane and being driven by Nicole Lee Wood, 17, of Sand Brook Lane, Sylva. The impact knocked the Acura into two parked cars on the left side of the street.

Those vehicles were a 2000 Toyota owned by Jack and Mary Bocook of Waynesville and a 2001 Toyota owned by Maurice and Sandra Waugh of Webster. After the collision, the Morici vehicle swerved back into the right lane and onto the sidewalk striking a bench, according to the report. Estimated damage to the four vehicles was $8,700 with the bench receiving approximately $250 damage. As of Tuesday morning, no charges had been filed.
