Smoky Mountain loses in rain-shortened game

Smoky Mountain committed eight errors in a 6-0 loss Saturday at West Henderson.

The Mustangs remained winless in six games when the contest was called after five innings due to rain.

"We had a lot of errors," Coach Ron Yount said. " If we'd eliminate mistakes, we'd have been fairly competitive."

He said Stephen Karby (0-2), who struck out 10, pitched an outstanding game. He limited the Falcons to five hits.

Luke Lovelace's RBI single gave West the only run it would need in the first.

Lovelace singled again in the third with runs scoring on a fielder's choice and wild pitch for a 3-0 margin.

The Falcons scored without a hit in the fourth and added two runs in the fifth to account for the final. Seth Grant had an RBI single in the fifth with the last runs scoring on an error.

Spencer Linn was the winning pitcher.

Lovelace had two hits in three at-bats.

The Mustang JVs fell to 4-1 with a 10-0 loss. Clay Cantler was two of two at the plate.

"A lot of things didn't go our way," Coach Aaron Tuttle said. "I was pleased with the kids. They didn't stop hitting and didn't get down."
