Lady Mountaineers roll to soccer victory over SM
Hannah Minnick scored two early goals and had an assist leading Tuscola to a 9-1 Mountain Athletic Conference soccer victory over Smoky Mountain on March 17 at Waynesville.
The Lady Mountaineers pounded SM for 26 shots while the Lady Mustangs got off only three.
"They kept the ball in our end of the field most of the game simply by beating us to the ball," Coach Jeff Brannigan said. "Tuscola played with more intensity than us. They won a majority of the 50-50 balls."

With goalkeeper Danielle Bowers missing the contest due to practice for the Blue-White All-Star basketball game, freshmen Laury Brown and Amy Haggard each played a half in goal.
"Laury and Amy both played their hearts out," Brannigan said. "I'm really proud of the effort they put forth against an extremely good team."
Brown made 10 saves in the first half, and Haggard had 14 in the second half.
Minnick scored the game's first two goals in a span of less than two minutes with Lauren Ross providing a pair of assist. They came at the 8:49 and 10:15 marks.
Minnick also had a hand in the third goal as she assisted Emily Simmons at 20:25.
Tuscola led 5-0 at intermission following a pair of goals by Christine Mitchell. They were assisted by Rebecca Patrick at 25:40 and Simmons at 34:09.
The Lady Mounties' first score of the second half was an own goal that deflected off an SM player and into the net for a 6-0 lead at the 46:30 mark.
Goals from Stephanie Razdehr at 51:45 and Ross at 58:20 extended the margin to 8-0.
