Erwin downs Mustangs in MAC baseball action

Erwin scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday to take a 12-2 Mountain Athletic Conference baseball victory over Smoky Mountain at Erwin.

The game was called at that point due to the 10-run rule.

The teams were originally scheduled to play here, but the contest was moved to Erwin because of wet grounds on the SM field. The rematch will be here April 26.

The JV game was not played. A doubleheader is set for April 27 here.

"We got out-hit seven to five, but our errors and walks are what eventually led to our loss," Coach Ron Yount said. "We just need to tighten our belt up and quit making so many errors."

The Mustangs, who fell to 0-5 in the MAC, took a 2-0 lead in the first as Ben Robinson singled and David White homered.

Dustin Ingle blanked SM on three hits the rest of the way.

The Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the first and four in the second to go up 5-2. Landon Ford homered in the second , but most of the other runs were the result of errors and walks.

A double by Jordan Hotchkiss and Ingle's single along with three errors got the fifth-inning uprising under way. Bronson Honeycutt ended the game with a grand slam.

Honeycutt was two of two for the Warriors while SM's Robinson went two of three.

White (0-3) was the losing pitcher.
