A bike path is born

Bikers will be able to pass through Catamount Gap in style once this portion of a new bicycle path on N.C. 107 is complete. Last week N.C. Department of Transportation workers widened the road's shoulders to accommodate the path, which will be 6 feet wide and run from Fairview Road to Forest Hills. "There is interest in going down further south to Speedwell Road, but funding's not yet available," said Rick Styles, DOT Division 14 resident engineer. Begun a few weeks ago, the project should be finished by November. The path will eventually connect with the county's greenways system. - Herald photo by Carey King
