Jones loses law license in wake of conviction, charges - A veteran Sylva attorney has lost his license to practice law in North Carolina. Tom Jones, 60, a former attorney for Jackson County, former member of the county Board of Elections and former president of the Jackson County Bar Association, was disbarred last month by the Disciplinary Hearing Committee of the North Carolina State Bar. The committee's order was based on Jones' April 2003 conviction on federal bank fraud charges and additional October federal and state charges of money laundering and....

Snow closes schools, offices - For the second time this winter, a major storm that dumped snow on North Carolina's Piedmont left Jackson County relatively unaffected. Fernandez is finalist for 'Principal of Year' - It's awfully hard to get Principal Wanda Fernandez to stop talking about Scotts Creek Elementary School. When giving a tour of the building, she can always find another hallway to show off, another teacher to praise, or another art project to admire.
