Remembering Aunt Samantha

Aunt Samantha Biddix Bumgarner died Christmas Eve 1960 of arteriosclerotic heart disease at age 82 and is buried in Franklin Cemetery in Dillsboro. On her tombstone are these words, "Folks came from far and near, Her vocal renditions and banjo to hear; God called her home one day, Where she can never grow old, To sing His eternal praises and play on instruments of pure gold." Bumgarner will be the subject of a drama to be presented tonight (Thursday) by county fourth-graders. - Herald photo by Rose Hooper
