Dillsboro to move forward on purchase of Monteith tract - After months of debating whether the town should incur the debt, Dillsboro officials agreed Monday (Feb. 9) to borrow money to purchase 16 acres between Sylva and Dillsboro. Board members agreed to apply for a 10-year, $112,000 loan with Charlotte-based BB&T at a rate of 3.9 percent to purchase the property from the late Edna Monteith's estate. Filing period delayed; primary is set for July - Legal wrangling has caused the State Board of Elections to postpone the May primary as well as the filing period, which was set to open Monday. A lawsuit filed by state Republicans challenging legislative districts approved by the General Assembly continues to make its way through the court system. Commissioners seek name for county government complex - County leaders agreed Tuesday (Feb. 10) to seek suggestions on a name for the governmental complex planned for Webster Road and to offer a prize to the person who proposes the final choice. Jackson County commissioners will accept recommendations for 30 days and will award a $100 gift certificate to the person who suggests the selected name. Commissioners indicated they will not consider naming the complex for an individual. Suggestions may be submitted to the county manager's office during the coming month, said Chairman Stacy Buchanan....
