Qualla adds to its fleet

New fire truck - Herald photo by Lisa Majors-Duff This new pumper/tanker takes Qualla Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department's fleet of firefighting vehicles to five, said Chief David Bell, center. Past and future department fund-raisers will help pay for the vehicle, which was purchased from Triad Fire Inc. of Kernersville for $160,000, Bell said. The new truck holds 1,000 gallons of water and pumps 1,250 gallons a minute. "This is the Cadillac of fire trucks," he said. "Jackson County is blessed with good fire apparatus," said Mike Ensley, left, the county's emergency management coordinator. "And its firefighters are No. 1," county Manager Jay Denton, right, said.
